Quality Receiving Inspector

Job Description

The Motiv Quality Inspector will perform inspections and verification of hardware at Motiv Space Systems, Inc. and Motiv’s vendors which may include travel.


Classification: At-will; Non-Exempt; Hourly
Reports To: Vice President, Operations
Location: Pasadena, CA
Work Environment: Office/Lab
Citizenship Requirement: Motiv Space Systems, Inc. positions require access to defense articles, equipment, technical information or service that is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be a “U.S. Person” as defined by ITAR, 22 CFR 120.15, 8 USC 1101(a)(20), and 8 USC 1324b(a)(3).
Work Schedule: Standard 40-hour work week; some overtime may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections of electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical piece parts
  • Assure that the parts/material are in compliance with the drawing, and quality clauses
  • Verification of supplier’s documentation against PO and quality requirements
  • Document non-conformances in accordance with Motiv procedures and processes as required
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, part specifications, and datasheets
  • Understanding of AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Management Systems
  • Clearly communicate with engineering and parts engineers to resolve discrepancies during the inspection process

Essential Job Functions/Core Compentencies

  • Have excellent communications skills and be able to represent Motiv to the vendor’s quality representatives
  • Read, interpret, and work from Motiv technical documentation and vendor reports
  • Be able to independently perform verifications and document results in a clear, precise, and complete manner
  • Have excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and outstanding work efficiency
  • Think creatively and independently while following documentation and maintaining prescribed quality standards
  • Recommend ideas and process improvements towards the quality procedures, inspection process, and equipment

Education, Experience, and Training

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associates degree is desired
  • Proficient with computers and the ability to use MS office and Inspection Software
  • Familiarity with inspection tools such as microscopes, calipers, micrometers, and/or other hand tools
