The Configuration Design Engineer will be responsible for organizing, managing, and directly contributing engineering content to large CAD assemblies that serve as the primary controlled configuration(s) for a given program or programs.

Duties and Responsibilities
Configuration Design Engineer’s responsibilities will be to:
Manage CAD top-level (or high-level) configurations to which team members contribute their own CAD concepts and designs
Organize and maintain top-level configurations to send to the customer for standalone purposes or integration into higher-level assemblies
Bring to light potential engineering conflicts between team contributors throughout the development cycle of the program
Produce formal information of and from the configuration in the form of source-control and interface-control drawings, envelope/volume drawings, and assembly drawings
Essential Job Functions/Core Competencies
Ability to manage large CAD assemblies in SolidWorks, often with many nested sub-configurations
Ability to work with team member CAD sub-assemblies in absence of a formal product data manager (PDM), essentially serving the function of a PDM
Creative abilities regarding configurational packaging and arrangement, and an understanding of competing engineering concerns that affect the development of configurations

Education, Experience, and Training
6+ years of experience
Excellent formal and informal documentation skills
Must have broad expertise or knowledge in:
SolidWorks, especially large assemblies and multi-sheet drawings
GD&T as it pertains to interface control and source control drawings
The engineering development cycle of large assemblies, conceptual to final design
The development cycle of space flight systems
